The Rio Grande Trail asphalt repair project, which took place from Emma Road to the Catherine Bridge Trailhead from May to August 2024, brought much needed improvement by the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) and Holmes Excavation.
Here is what was completed during this project:
- Removed and replaced 3,829 linear feet (about ¾ of a mile and 4,254 SY) of the asphalt trail and recompacted the subgrade
- Trenched and added root barrier where needed
- Rebuilt 7,658 linear feet of shoulders
- Replaced an undersized and damaged culvert
- Addressed and stabilized an erosion issue by adding riprap and added some fence
- Completed clean-up of mud/debris that had accumulated under some drainage chutes
Your tax dollars were hard at work, enhancing our beloved Rio Grande Trail with RFTA Destination 2040. Thank you for your patience and understanding during these closures and detours as we worked to ensure a smoother and safer trail experience.
